Your driver's license lists one number. Your body may be running a different one entirely. Biological age is a measure of how your body is actually functioning and aging on the inside, and it can run younger or older than your chronological age depending on what has been happening in your hormones, metabolism, inflammation, and cellular health, often years before it shows up as a diagnosis.
Chronological age is simple math: the number of years since you were born, and it moves at exactly the same rate for everyone. Biological age is different. It reflects the cumulative effect of genetics, lifestyle, hormones, stress, sleep, and inflammation on how your cells and systems are actually functioning right now. Two women born in the same year can have meaningfully different biological ages depending on how those factors have played out. That difference is exactly why "your labs are normal for your age" can still leave you feeling like something is off. Normal for your age is a population average, not a statement about your actual trajectory.
There is no single test that captures the whole picture on its own, which is why a one-number result from a single company should be interpreted with some caution. A more complete picture pulls from several categories at once: hormone status, including where you are in the perimenopause and menopause transition; metabolic health, including insulin sensitivity and blood sugar regulation, not just a single glucose reading; inflammation markers that reflect long-term cardiovascular and systemic risk; gut and immune health, since a meaningful share of immune function originates in the gut; and cardiovascular and longevity risk markers that go beyond a standard cholesterol panel. Looked at together, these categories, what we think of at Root & Remedy Integrative Care as the Five Pillars, tell a far more honest story than any single lab value or wearable score in isolation.
The value is not the number itself. It is what the number points you toward. A biological age that is running ahead of your chronological age is a signal, not a verdict, and it usually points to a specific, addressable driver: unmanaged insulin resistance, unresolved inflammation, a hormone imbalance that has not been evaluated, or a gap between how you are living and what your body currently needs. Finding that driver early, while it is still a pattern and not yet a diagnosis, is the entire premise of getting ahead of disease instead of reacting to it.
A biological age result on its own is just information. The useful part is what comes next: a clinician who can look at which of the underlying pillars is driving the number and build a plan around it, then recheck it down the line to confirm the plan is actually working, not just assume it is. That is the structure behind Know Your Number at Root & Remedy Integrative Care: a full look at your biological age and the pillars behind it, with a personalized plan and a recheck built in, rather than a number with no next step.
